Doesn’t religion cause most of the conflict in the world?

Four different points of view on the subject of religion and conflict. My view is that religion is not the cause of conflict – greed and power are. Religion provides the packaging, the rightful justification for aggression, atrocities and destruction. Religion is particularly good for that purpose, because it contains all the fundamental values of the (religious) individual. Therefore the individual is lead to believe that he goes to war in the name of dignity, loyalty,  family – and it is all sanctioned by the ultimate authority – god. As for the communist atheist leaders cited in the article, let’s not forget that the communist doctrine offered a substitute belief system, even with its own afterlife – the Utopian communist society. That places it in face to face competition with the  religion – but ironically, does not make it atheist in essence.
